Van Gele's radio broadcast performance of modern solo music contains one of the most sensitive and flowing interpretations of Ryohei Hirose's Meditation I'v ever heard, as well as a brilliant rendition of Maki Ishii's new Tenor Recorder Piece (east-green-spring). The latter is possibly the most challenging solo recorder work extant, but you'd never know it from this performance. Van Gele keeps the focus on the flow of the music, never struggling with his instrument. It's truly a benchmark of what the recorder can be.
